Three Kings Toastmasters has been helping people build public speaking and leadership skills for over 37 years. Come along to one of our fortnightly meetings and see how we can help you find your confidence!
Most people feel uncomfortable when speaking in front of an audience. Toastmasters offers a safe environment where you can practice speaking, receive feedback and build up your confidence.
Toastmasters is where leaders are made! Learning how to communicate effectively can open up many opportunities. Being a Club Leader or Mentor also enables you to practice leadership amongst a supportive group of people.
By joining Toastmasters, you will be surrounded by people who genuinely care about your success. As you give speeches and listen to the stories of others, friendships will surely grow!
Our club meetings are divided into three parts – prepared speeches, impromptu speeches and evaluations.
Prepared speeches are scheduled in advance and are typically 5 – 7 minutes in length. These speeches are part of the Toastmasters Pathways Learning Programme and allow members to practice a more formal style of speaking.
We practice impromptu speaking through a method called table topics. This is where participants are given random questions and try to speak on them for 1 – 2 minutes. This may sound daunting, but it is actually lots of fun and is a valuable skill for everyday life.
Everyone who speaks is evaluated. We do this in an encouraging way so that you can quickly understand your strengths and identify the next steps. This is one of the main benefits of coming to Toastmasters!
Want to see how our club works? Visit one of our fortnightly meetings for free. We love hosting guests and usually have at least 3 or 4 at each meeting, so there’s no reason to feel shy!
We provide a generous supper at every meeting, which typically takes 20 minutes. Guests are welcome to eat for free. However, we do appreciate if you send us a message before attending so that we prepare enough for everyone.
The thoughtful evaluation given to me for my very first impromptu talk at Toastmasters encouraged me to join. It is one of the best decisions I have made. My life is much better for it and I get great pleasure out of helping other members progress in their speaking journey. I recommend this club to everyone who wants not only to improve their confidence in speaking but to also benefit from the leadership track offered. The members are amazing to listen to and we are friends together with so many different ethnicities we learn about other cultures which is brilliant.
After avoiding public speaking most of my life I joined On Top Toastmasters in Kaitaia in 2007 and benefitted greatly from participating in a relatively small club. When we moved to Auckland after I retired, I noticed that there was a club nearby. After attending one meeting in February 2016 I joined Three Kings Toastmasters straight away. The club has a wide range of experience and is well organized, which assured me that I need look no further.
I joined Toastmasters so that I could be a better listener rather than just to be good at public speaking. I also had no plans, whatsoever, to be a leader in anything and, after my first scary Table topics experience, I never wanted to go back. However, after I got evaluated on my first 1 minute speech, I knew that Toastmasters would provide me with a safe environment to grow and better myself. Therefore, I returned and became a paid member. Three years later, I am still going strong, and I have grown in confidence to become a more effective leader and speaker. Now, I am crazy about Toastmasters.
