Toastmasters is about creating an environment where leaders and speakers can develop. You should attend a Toastmasters meeting if you would like to improve in these areas.
It is 100% free to visit as a guest. Our membership fee is currently $180NZD for six months (charged pro-rata) plus a one time registration fee of $25USD for new members.
You may attend as a guest as many times as you like before making the decision to join. However, only club members can take on meeting roles and give speeches.
Our meetings start at exactly 7pm; so we ask that you arrive at 6.45pm to ensure that we start on time. During the evening we follow a set agenda with a number of prepared speakers and also some impromptu speeches, while other members perform important roles to keep the agenda flowing. The meeting finishes at 9.30pm, with a supper break around 8pm.
No, just come along and join the meeting.
We usually welcome guests at the beginning of a meeting and give you the opportunity to introduce yourself. At the end of the night, we will ask you for feedback on the meeting and if you would like to share.
You will not be expected to speak as a guest, but could be asked if you would like to speak within the Table Topics section of the meeting – impromptu speaking if you wish to.
You need to become a club member before you can give a prepared speech and or take on meeting roles.
In short, you can speak as often or as little as you like. The roster is prepared a month in advance to help with planning and allocation of roles — however, often things change and roles or speaking opportunities become available for any member to take up.
Members can speak about any topic they like, but it often will be related to their Pathways project and the type of speech they are giving. Many people talk about their passions, professions and adventures, which are always interesting to listen to.
Three Kings Toastmasters meetings are fortnightly, every second Thursday evening at 7pm.
Upcoming meeting dates are listed on the home page.
We are not a pass/fail organisation, instead we believe in learning by observation and improving by doing. That said, it really depends on the individual — after completing just two or three speeches, you should feel like you are improving in some aspects of your delivery.
You have a couple of options to improve quickly, these include:
Please contact us should you wish to find out more about these options.
All of us are nervous at times! Come along to meetings anyway and face your fear in a comfortable and supportive environment.
Not at all — many of our club members are new to public speaking or have little experience.
We do have some professional speakers in the club but this does not mean you need to be at that level or that they will not support and encourage. In fact, you’ll gain valuable feedback and advice from their experience.
Of course. We don’t teach English, however as with any language you can learn by observation and participation. Many of our club members speak English as a second or third language.
We suggest that you attend a meeting or two and see what you think of it!
